James Hill
Vice President
of Exploration
BNK Petroleum
Mr. Hill
started his
career in
geology when he joined the US Geological Survey in 1971. While at the
USGS, a majority of his time was spent on research on the Monterey
Shale ending with that being the focus of his Masters Thesis.
During his time at the USGS he worked in the Branches of Oil
and Gas, Marine Arctic and Chemical resources until he joined the
exploration group with Chevron USA in 1977. His work for
Chevron focused on both the development and exploration of Monterey
Shale reservoirs in California and later on clastic reservoirs in
southern Alaska. In 1986 Mr. Hill formed CalGeo Resources
Inc. with several other professionals offering consulting
services. After leaving CalGeo in 1997 he formed another
consulting company working California reservoirs and structural geology
until joining Tartan Energy in 2000 as VP of Exploration. He
continued in that position working both domestic and international
assignments until 2006 when he joined Bankers Petroleum as VP of
Exploration and Development. With the split off of BNK
Petroleum Mr. Hill has been overseeing the domestic and international
exploration efforts of the company and is now focusing on New
Ventures.
Hear James Hill’s views on:
Why is it that BNK
appears to be focusing on new developments in Europe, rather than North
America?
Do the benefits of
working in Europe outweigh the higher service costs?
What lessons can be
applied to European work from BNK's North American experience?
The European service
companies are less competitive than North American when it comes to
shale gas work, how does BNK compensate for this?
Is the manufacturing
model appropriate for the European market?
What sort of targets
are you looking at for the first well? How quickly could production
start?
Is BNK business model
focussed on finding opportunities and farming them out?
Is the manufacturing
model appropriate for the European market?
Working in Europe poses
new challenges for shale gas production as it is likely the number of
wells will be constrained and opposition to fracking likely. How does
BNK intend to address this?
