OVERVIEW

Production monitoring  is  the basis of production optimisation of oil and gas assets. Many assets  nowadays  have  monitoring  equipment  and  real-time  data  acquisition  systems available that generate large amounts of real-time production data.

The key challenge on which this masterclass will focus is how to realize direct added value to  real-time operations. The case-based masterclass will give an overview of  the  skills and technology that are needed to achieve this for a specific asset.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING

  • An introduction to an emerging topic: Using real-time data to monitor performance and optimise an oil & gas field
  • Key insights into the benefits of the technology
  • Lessons learned about implementations in various types of companies
  • An understanding of the major technical concepts
  • Lessons learned about implementations in various types of companies, and embedding it in an organization

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Asset managers
  • Production engineers and reservoir engineers with an interest in real-time production optimization and data management
  • People from the service and IT industry, involved in implementation of real-time monitoring and information management solutions of oil & gas assets

MASTERCLASS LEADERS

Dr. Ruud van der Linden, Senior Specialist – Real-time Production Optimisation,TNO

Dr. Ruud van der Linden is a senior specialist in real-time production optimisation at  TNO.  Before  working  in  the  upstream  oil  &  gas  sector,  he  worked  as  a consultant in various industries to analyse and improve production of plants and assets. In the past 5 years he has been working with teams of oil & gas operating companies to apply his knowledge from these industries in information and data management solutions. In 2009 he did an invited lectureship for StatoilHydro on the topic of real-time production optimisation. In 2007 he was a contributor to the SPE forum on real-time production optimisation in Cascais Portugal.

Anton Leemhuis, New Business Development – Oil & Gas Production Optimisation, TNO

Anton Leemhuis is responsible at TNO for new business development of oil & gas production optimisation, with specific emphasis on the North Sea, Middle East and West Africa. During his  years at TNO, he has worked on  the development of a wide  range of production optimisation  technologies,  ranging  from ESPs,  to gas coning  controllers,  and  production  monitoring  systems.  At  present,  he  is  also working on a Game Changer report of the production optimisation sector. Anton works not only with various oilfield service companies on both the technical and commercial development of new products, but also has an extensive knowledge of venture capital developments in the sector. Projects done at present in the area of production monitoring are with  several North Sea  independents and oil and gas majors, also addressing North African and American based operations.

ABOUT TNO

TNO is an independent consultingand technology development company, based in Delft the Netherlands. It has about 4500 employees and over 30 years of experience in the oil & gas sector. TNO works with various major  and  independent operating companies, as well as ICT system integrators, to deliver data management solutions that successfully optimise asset production.  Other upstream oil  &  gas activities of TNO include: instrument development, integrity services for installations and equipment, CCS and reservoir management. Next to oil & gas TNO services many other markets, including: defence, space, food and pharma.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SMI Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.
