SMi proudly present their 5th annual Border Security event. This year’s event will be hosted in Sofia, Bulgaria for a second year following on from the great success of it’s debut there last year. The event will be held on Wednesday 29th February & Thursday 1st March 2012. This event forms a key part of Smi group’s growing security portfolio and will offer a global and regional overview of all hot topics surrounding maintenance of Border Security.
Border Security is a continually evolving challenge and although each border has it’s own unique history and issues associated with it, there is opportunity to share and learn from experiences of Border Security professionals from around the world. Border flashpoints and hotspots can be created by political & economic tensions and protecting them is a fundamental element of maintaining national security.
This year’s event returns to Bulgaria and provides a timely appraisal of Border Security concerns in Eastern Europe and around the world. As a relatively new member of the European Union, Bulgaria faces geo-polilcal challenges unlike many of its co-members. Along with Romania, it is also doing everything it can to be accepted in to the Schengen Area. This necessitates effective border policing and this position as a border security hot spot makes it an ideal and intriguing venue.
