Overview
|
This Masterclass will provide a comprehensive survey and in-depth analysis of the growing range of military IED threats and civilian terrorist devices; the latest technologies, practices and procedures in counter-IED; priorities for training and funding; the role of weapons and human intelligence in past and present operations; a Workshop on first response to an IED incident; challenges we face in dealing with the devices of the future.
By popular demand we are running a second year of the IEDs Masterclass. This year the sessions will be extended from a half-day to one day.

Upon completion of this Masterclass, through a combination of presentations and interactive discussion, you will:
- Acquire an understanding of the current IED and explosives threat in civilian and military settings and gain an insight into the current capabilities of insurgents and terrorist groups and individuals from specific incidents, IED forensics, supply chains, and intelligence

- Joined RAND in early 2007 after serving for nine years as an Officer with the London Metropolitan Police Service - served in a uniformed response team, as a CID detective, and as a Borough Intelligence Unit (BIU) desk, officer for drugs and firearms
- Trained and used in a ‘public order’ (riot control) role and as rapid entry team member for the securing of dangerous venues, particularly drug-related ‘crack’ houses
- In final three years of police service from 2004, selected to serve in Special Branch within the Specialist Operations Command at New Scotland Yard
- Participated in pro-active intelligence-led operations and evidential investigations into terrorism within the UK
- Seven years in British Army Intelligence Corps as a reservist for seven years
