Supersaturation & Solubility

7th December 2010, Central London, London, United Kingdom.

In association with Sirius Analytical

Why should you attend this event?

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between solubility and other physicochemical properties
  • Assess molecular structures for their likelihood to supersaturate
  • Understand ways to increase the concentration of poorly soluble drugs in solution

Where does the event take place?

This workshop will take place in central London

What is this MasterClass about?

This masterclass will examine the solubility and supersaturation of drugs from a solution chemistry point of view. We will explain how solubility is affected by molecular structure, pH, pKa and salt formation, and discuss the role of lipophilicity. We will discuss the relationships between solubility and dissolution, and lipophilicity and permeability, and then look at techniques for enhancing solubility and supersaturation by the use of additives.

Who is leading this MasterClass?

John Comer, Co-founder & Technical Director, Sirius Analytical

John Comer helped set up Sirius Analytical in 1990. As Sirius' Technical Director, John has played a key role in the company's scientific developments, as well as co-authoring over 30 publications in the field of PhysChem and co-founding the PhysChem Forum in 2005.

Karl Box, Scientific Team Leader, Sirius Analytical

Karl Box is the Scientific Team Leader at Sirius and one of the inventors of the CheqSol method for solubility measurement. He has been with Sirius since 1993 and is an expert in the field of physicochemical measurements. During this time he has been involved in running an Analytical Service Laboratory, customer training and installations, successful development of new instrumentation and assays for physicochemical property determination, and involvement in property prediction software. Karl has over 20 peer reviewed publications in scientific journals and is an experienced speaker. Karl obtained a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Bath (UK)

About Sirius Analytical

Sirius Analytical Ltd specialize in designing and manufacturing unique analytical instrumentation for the pharmaceutical industry. Sirius instruments provide accurate and reliable values for pKa, logP, logD, solubility and dissolution, using methods based on highly automated potentiometric and spectroscopic titration. The ability of New Chemical Entities to cross biological membranes such as the gastro-intestinal tract, blood-brain barrier, skin and cell walls in general, depends on these critical physicochemical parameters. Sirius also offer an analytical service for high quality physchem outsourcing, used by thousands of clients worldwide.
