Electricity Market Reform: the White Paper and beyond.

About the Electricity Market Reform: The EMR sets out the Government’s commitment to transform the UK’s electricity system to ensure that the UK’s future electricity supply is secure, low-carbon and affordable. The package of reforms outlined here will mean that by 2030 the UK will have: a flexible, smart and responsive electricity system, powered by a diverse and secure range of low-carbon sources of electricity, with a full part played by demand management, storage and interconnection; competition between low-carbon technologies that will help to keep costs down; a network that will be able to meet the increasing demand that will result from the electrification of our transport and heating systems; and this transition will be made at the least cost to the consumer.

Masterclass overview:  The Government published its White Paper on electricity market reform on 12 July.  The White Paper sets out key measures to attract investment, reduce the impact on consumer bills, and create a secure mix of electricity sources, including gas, new nuclear, renewables, and carbon capture and storage. The Masterclass will take attendees through the rationale for reform, the key elements of the reform package, and the next steps on the road to reform.

Masterclass aim: The event will offer an opportunity for participants to discuss with Tim Warham and each other the detailed reform package within the White Paper, and the further design work in train ahead of the introduction of a Bill to Parliament in the spring.
