    Mr Bogdan Horvat

Executive Officer NAGSMA, NATO Allied Ground Surveillance Management Agency
    Mr Bogdan Horvat

Mr. Horvat is currently serving as the Executive Officer, NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Management Agency (NAGSMA), responsible for the provision of executive support to the General Manager's Office and to ensure the dissemination and realisation of executive decisions. In addition, he is responsible for coordinating the Executive Staff functions and steering processes and to promote and maintain professional relationships with senior members of NATO bodies like the IS, IMS, NCI Agency, NSPA and commercial entities related to the Programme activities.
Mr. Horvat has a long history in NATO, beginning in February 2002, when he started working in the International Staff of the Defense Support Division, responsible for Partnership for Peace (PfP) cooperation in armaments related issues. After one year of very successful work in the International Staff he became a Defense Adviser in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to NATO responsible for the Conference of National Armaments Director (CNAD) related issues.
In that time Mr. Horvat was directly involved in a number of NATO projects namely Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS), Missile Defense (MD), Active Layered Theatre Ballistic Missile Defense (ALTBMD) and Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC). As a Slovenian representative to the abovementioned projects Mr. Horvat was very much involved in coordination activities with members of the projects as well as development of the Memorandum of Understanding for both AGS and SAC. He was also actively involved in the creation of both the NAGSMO and NAMO charters.
From this part of his professional career, Mr. Horvat takes most pride in the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) project, of which he was a member from the very first day (September 2006). For more than two years he was the Slovenian representative in the SAC Steering Board (SB) and different working groups. Mr. Horvat’s hard work and determination was very well regarded, and as a result, he was selected as the first Chairman of the NAMO Board of Directors (BoD). He held that position for 14 months and under his leadership the SAC initiative received all three strategic C-17 airframes and became operational, transporting military goods and humanitarian aid.
Mr. Horvat holds a University degree in engineering, having finished military academy. After graduation in 1985, he started his military career as a commander of the Engineering Company. His responsibilities ranged from ensuring training for about 120 soldiers in proper equipment operations and battlefield construction as well as building military roads and bridges, to managing supply, and maintenance activities. He also measured and reported performance and effectiveness of the logistic support activities as part of his responsibilities. That part of his professional career provided him with a solid foundation in the areas of managing large organizations, personnel and technical skills, and moreover, it provided him necessary leadership skills and the ability to work as a part of a team.
After leaving the Yugoslav Army in 1990, he immediately started working in the newly formed Slovenian Army, and given the very important task of training the very first generation of Slovenian soldiers. His military positions were all related to establishment of new units and organizations from a technical and organizational point of view. His hard work and skills became well recognised and very well respected, allowing his professional career to escalate rapidly and thus receive several promotions. Before taking his first international post in 2002, Mr. Horvat’s post in Slovenian MOD was the Adviser to the Government for Explosives and Ammunition, which was a highly regarded position within the Ministry of Defence.
Mr. Horvat is fluent in English, Serbian and Croatian and passive in German, French and Dutch.

Birds actually. And even though we started with tracking birds, we validated our data with drones, in order to prove our radar tracking accuracy. So we’re in a unique position, with a wealth of experience, to detect, track, and classify (read separate) birds from drones. Drone detection radar: ELVIRA® covers a full 360 degrees and comes with a standard instrumented range of five kilometres. ELVIRA® provides unlimited coverage by combining multiple radar devices into an integrated sensor network. The output from multiple radars is incorporated into one unambiguous picture, meaning a single drone causes a single alarm. Bird radar: Our range of bird radars track the exact flight paths of both flocks and individual birds up to 10 kilometres. They automatically detect and log hundreds of birds simultaneously, including their size, speed, direction and flight path. With our avian radars, you'll be tracking in real-time, 24/7, all around your airport. You’ll have all the information you need to mitigate bird strikes, and even intervene, when necessary.

    WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SMI Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

    GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.

    CPD Certificates

We can provide a certificate for all our accredited events. To request a CPD certificate for a conference , workshop, master classes you have attended please email events@smi-online.co.uk
